I felt extra glamorous wearing a customized robe in deep green by Kay Deane and having my make-up done by good friend and make-up artist Eya.
Kay Deane, created by Avner Deane in March 2016 is a Sri Lankan brand that specializes in customized robes and exclusive gift boxes. In just over an year, the brand has garnered a following of loyal clients not only from Sri Lanka but from different parts of the world. I was really lucky to receive a lovely gift box that had an assortment of goodies that smelled as refreshing and looked just as good.

What inspired you to start Kay Deane?
“The Kay Deane brand is named in honor of my late grandmother Mrs. K Deane. She was the most fascinating person I know. The brand encompasses the magic of my childhood, thanks to my grandmother. She would throw us midnight feasts and picnics in her flower-filled garden. I have tried to capture the same whimsical magic for brides and their bridal parties”.
Avner, you have mentioned that your brand is named after your grandmother. You must have been very close to her. Could you tell us a little bit about it?
“My grandmother is the original Kay Deane woman. The kind of woman who embraces adventure and modernity and is quietly aware of her own special magic”.
Is there a favorite piece you have created so far in the Kay Deane collection?
“My most favorite piece is the robe that was crafted from satin and had dyed with hundreds of individual flowers. This piece is very special to me due to it’s intricacy and connection with real blooms. The imprint of these beautiful flowers are immortalized on the fabric, long after they fade away”.
How do you balance work and personal life?
“I prioritize my work related goals as well as my loved ones birthdays and special days. The productivity on my iPhone helps”.
What is next for you? What is on the horizon?
“Kay Deane is getting an online shopping website which will allow us to ship worldwide”.
